GSR School

Where a new General Service Representative learns the job.

What this committee does

GSR School introduces new General Service Representatives, alternates and any interested member to the structure of A.A. general service and the duties of a GSR — the link between the home group and A.A. as a whole. It’s a friendly place to learn how the Area conducts its business and where new opportunities to serve can be found.

Its work in Area 09

  • Hold GSR School before each Assembly and Area Service Committee meeting, with English- and Spanish-speaking chairs.
  • Weekly online Service Manual study for GSRs on Wednesdays, 7–8 PM, presented with Districts 1 & 3.
  • Help districts with GSR workshops (for example, District 9 and District 7 workshops).
  • Encourage GSRs to join Area standing committees and the Delegate’s monthly sharing session.
  • Point GSRs to the GSR Kit, the GSR Preamble and the GSR Tool Kit app (English and Spanish).
  • Report on the school at every Area meeting; often a new GSR gives the report.

How to get involved

Open to all GSRs, alternate GSRs and any A.A. member wanting the basics of general service — no sign-up needed. Just come to the next Area meeting or join the Wednesday Zoom.

How it is organized

An English-speaking Chair and a Spanish-speaking Chair, both voting members of the ASC and the Assembly. Suggested qualifications: a completed two-year term as GSR (or other general service) and working knowledge of the General Service structure, the Service Manual, the Twelve Traditions and the Twelve Concepts. The committee reviews its guidelines and submits a budget each year.
