What this committee does

The Convention Liaison Standing Committee (CLSC) brings General Service to the places A.A. members gather. Its interactive display of literature and audiovisual material explains the General Service Office, A.A. World Services, Grapevine and La Viña, the Conference and its committees, the Area structure, and the services Area committees offer to districts, groups and members.

Its work in Area 09

  • Set up and staff the Area 09 General Service display at conventions, conferences, workshops and round-ups in the Area that follow G.S.O.'s guidelines (e.g., the Southern California, Inland Empire, Orange County, High Desert and Mountain conventions).
  • Stock the display with G.S.O., AAWS, Grapevine/La Viña and Area 09 sample literature: catalogs, directories, committee guidelines, pamphlets, Conference Reports and Service Manuals.
  • Answer questions about the General Service structure, the Area, districts and home groups, and encourage GSR participation.
  • Coordinate display placement and hours with the host event’s chair, and represent the Area at the event’s business meeting.
  • Bring the display to Area functions, district meetings and special events on request.

How to get involved

Members include the English and Spanish co-chairs, past committee chairs and any Area 09 member interested in the work. The committee meets six times a year on Area Service Committee days. Volunteers are always needed to staff the display — a great first service commitment for anyone who enjoys talking about general service.

How it is organized

A Spanish co-chair, an English co-chair and a Recording Secretary, elected for two years in January of even years; vacancies are filled at the next Assembly. Knowledge of the General Service Conference structure and availability on event weekends are suggested. The budget covers registration, up to two nights’ lodging and mileage for one co-chair or designated member per hosting event.

When we meet

Meets during the Area meeting break-out
