Standing committee
Finance
The Area budget, quarterly reports and our Seventh Tradition.
What this committee does
The Finance Committee is the financial advisory body to the Area 09 Executive Committee. With the Area treasurers it drafts the annual budget, reports the Area’s finances every quarter and evaluates requests for new spending. As Bill W. wrote, every A.A. service is designed to make more and better Twelfth Step work possible — and under our Tradition of self-support, we all foot the bill.

Its work in Area 09
- Draft the annual budget with the treasurers: send budget request forms (digital and paper) to every budgeted committee and service position; requests are due in September and the Assembly votes the budget in January.
- Prepare quarterly financial reports for the Area meetings, the newsletter and the website.
- Evaluate unbudgeted requests (requesters present to the committee about a month in advance) and report the financial impact; make written recommendations to the Executive Committee.
- Arrange the annual audit through an Audit Committee appointed each January, reporting in May.
- Keep the capital-equipment inventory, help plan replacements, and see that contribution envelopes reach the groups.
- Serve as finance liaisons, helping each committee and service position prepare its budget request.
How to get involved
The committee has five to ten voting members; members who have attended three consecutive meetings may be voted in, and the committee also invites members for their skills and willingness. Current treasurers, the immediate past treasurers and the immediate past Delegate are suggested members; the Delegate and Area Chair are ex-officio. It meets monthly.
How it is organized
A Chair, Co-chair and Secretary elected within the committee for two-year terms (rotation encouraged; the incoming Chair is ideally in a second panel on the committee). The Chair reports at ASCs and Assemblies and provides all documents in English and Spanish. The committee makes no direct recommendations to the body — it reports to the Executive Committee.

Frequently asked questions
Our committee needs money that isn't in the budget. What do we do?
Bring the request to the Finance Committee about a month before you want to present it to the Area. The committee reviews it, reports the financial impact and makes a written recommendation to the Executive Committee.
